Can a movie mess with your brain?

Shutter Island is about two marshal investigators, Teddy and Chuck, who investigate the disappearance of a patient in an asylum for criminals on an isolated island. The opening scene shows the two detectives seen as best buddies and obviously both mentally stable. Throughout other scenes of the movie, the same detective Teddy is seen as a criminal patient of that asylum after killing his wife, who killed their kids. This psychological movie left me thinking and reflecting for days.

Many thrillers have a disappointing ending, which  might sometimes be really annoying. However, this movie had a mind-blowing twist at the end. I thought I would predict the ending of this film just like with any other films, but I was wrong. The ending raises an important question to fight or surrender.  Will he fight to hold on to the memories of the family he has lost, or will he surrender and accept the experimental decisions to cure his mental illness?  Well, I don't want to spoil the movie if you haven't watched it yet. All I can say is why? Just why Chuck? Honestly, this movie left me with trust issues. So, I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes suspense that leaves you thinking long after the closing credits.

  2. I've seen Shutter Island but it was a long time ago - about 10 years I think. Reading your blog post has made me rewatch it! I'll definitely do it one of these days. I'm definitely one of those "who likes supsense that leaves you thinking ..."

  3. I used to enjoy those type of movies that make you think and wonder, but more recently - especially since binge watching so much during Covid - I've started watching only the fun comedies or other light-hearted movies. Maybe my brain needs a rest!
